1. Take a seat

Firstly, you should get a place to sit that feels calm and quiet to you.

2. Set a time limit

If you are just starting this for the first time, it would help to choose a short time for this activity. Set your timings to 5 or 10 minutes.

3. Notice your body

There are different ways to get this done: You can sit in a chair with your feet placed on the floor, or sit loosely cross-legged, or you can kneel. They are all just fine positions. Just ensure you are stable and in a position with which you can stay in for a while.

4. Feel your breath

Slowly follow the sensation of your breath as you breathe in and out. Breathe in and out slowly.

5. Notice when your mind has wandered

Gradually, your attention will wave off from your breath and wander to other places. When you get to notice that your mind has wandered, simply return your attention to your breathing.

6. Be kind to your wandering mind

Do not judge yourself or obsess over the content of the thoughts your mind wandered off to. Just get on with nothing your breathe and calm.

7. Close with kindness
